Sakaran Dandai, who also had a brief stint as chief minister, was transferred to the ICU yesterday but is reported to be in stable condition.

KOTA KINABALU:
Former Sabah governor Sakaran Dandai has been receiving treatment at a private hospital here after coming down with Covid-19.

According to his son, Nasir, he was admitted to the Gleneagles Hospital last Wednesday.

“Yesterday, he was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU). Doctors said they transferred him to improve his chances of recovery,” he said, in a video shared on the Sabah media WhatsApp group today.

However, Nasir added that Sakaran, 91, who is also a former chief minister, is reported to be in stable condition.

“So far, my siblings and I have been communicating with our father as usual through video calls and he was able to respond, saying that he was in good condition.

“He is eating normally as well. And even just now through a video call, he was asking us to pray for his speedy recovery,” said Nasir, who is a former Sabah state assemblyman from Umno.

Sakaran, who is the uncle of former chief minister and Warisan president Shafie Apdal, served briefly as chief minister from March to December in 1994 and was the state governor from 1995 to 2002.
