Stating that vaccination was one of the most important parts of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, Lim asked why the number of doses administered each day had progressively dropped from its high of 531,114 on Aug 18 to 396,578 yesterday.
He also said more testing must be carried out in light of Malaysia’s high positivity rate which has hovered between 13% to 15% of late, far higher than the 5% recommended by the World Health Organization.
“The high positivity rate indicates that the infection rate has shown no signs of receding and is a damning testament of a government that has failed miserably in its goal to contain and eliminate the pandemic,” Lim said in a statement today.
He said that 320,000 tests should be carried out a day, representing roughly 1% of the population, but only half of that number is being done now.
The rising infectivity rate in Penang, where he was previously chief minister, was also cause for concern.
“This high R0 (1.14 as of yesterday) foreshadows that the rise of infections in Penang will continue unabated, and not hit below 1,000 daily cases for the foreseeable future,” he said.
