
He said the number of deaths doubled or amounted to more, compared to two or three cases a day before the Aidiladha festivities.
“The increase can be attributed to several factors, including the presence of the Covid-19 virus in the community,” he said. “The increase in cases after Aidiladha which could be due to home visits during the celebration.”
He said Covid-19 infections are expected to drop after 80% of the state’s population had been vaccinated and in the absence of new variants.
Regarding the daily case trend, now registering four figures a day, he said the spread could be due to the Delta variant which has become dominant in the state.
On the progress of the vaccination programme in Kelantan, Zaini said 35% of the state population had received the first vaccine dose and about 23% had received the second jab.
“We are targeting for 80% of the population to be vaccinated by October,” he said. “We will be getting 800,000 doses this month.” He thanked the Selangor health department for agreeing “to lend their vaccine supply” to the people of Kelantan.
