PETALING JAYA:
The ongoing Johor state assembly sitting has been postponed after a Covid-19 case was detected there, reported Malay-daily Kosmo!.

It is understood the latest infection involves an assembly staff member.

Yesterday, four assemblymen were barred from attending the sitting as they were ill with one of them testing positive for Covid-19.

The assembly was supposed to sit tomorrow and on Wednesday, but it has been moved to Sept 6 and 7.

“After carrying out a risk assessment, the Johor health department recommended that the sitting be postponed owing to the spread of the virus during the sitting,” said Johor assembly speaker Suhaizan Kayat.

“All assemblymen have been informed of the postponement. We do not want to take any risks.”

The Johor state assembly had reconvened on Aug 12. The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had previously stated that sittings should be postponed if there is a risk of Covid-19 infections.
