They said when Pakatan Harapan (PH) was in power, opposition MPs were not given equal funding.
“This practice was continued by Perikatan Nasional but this, ironically, was criticised by PH.
“We think that all MPs, be it from the ruling or opposition blocs, should be given the same amount of funds so (that) they can use the money to assist the people and fight Covid-19,” the groups said in a statement.
Earlier today, Ismail was sworn in as the prime minister, replacing Muhyiddin Yassin who resigned earlier this week.
Besides demanding equal funding, the groups also wanted Ismail’s administration to repeal all the emergency ordinances (EOs) promulgated during Muhyiddin’s administration.
“These EOs are valid for another six months although the Emergency ended on Aug 1. He should table a motion to repeal these unjust EOs at the parliamentary sitting scheduled for Sept 6,” they said.
In addition, they want the new government to implement Undi18 and the automatic voter registration, provide transparent information on the fight against Covid-19, set up the long-delayed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) and increase medical equipment and other facilities for Covid-19 patients placed in temporary hospitals.
“After the pandemic ends, Ismail needs to execute all necessary reforms,” the groups said.
