GEORGE TOWN:
A forensic team has taken DNA samples from family members of three victims who were burnt beyond recognition after an accident along Jalan Masjid Negeri here last Monday.

Timur Laut district police chief Soffian Santong said the autopsy reports revealed that the three victims were two men and a woman, in their 20s.

Three families came at 1.30pm yesterday for the identification process.

However, the personal items obtained from the three bodies were insufficient to assist in the identification process. There were also no special features on the victims, Soffian said in a statement today.

Soffian said the DNA samples would be sent to the chemistry department to verify the victims’ identity.

In the 3.05am incident, three people were killed when the Toyota Vios they were travelling in crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

Penang fire and rescue department operations officer Sha’ari Mansor said the registration number of the car could not be ascertained. The three people, including the driver, were trapped inside.
