KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah hit a record high for the second day running after 2,413 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state over the past 24 hours.

This was 310 cases more than yesterday.

State local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said the surge today was also due to 258 backlog test samples coming back with positive results.

He said most of the infections were detected in Kota Kinabalu with 594 cases, followed by Tawau (348), Penampang (177), Tuaran (174) and Keningau (153).

“Close contacts remained the main contributor to the number of daily infections in the state with 1,410 cases, or 58.4%,” he told FMT.

Masidi, who is also the state Covid-19 spokesman, said symptomatic screenings accounted for 538 of the cases while existing clusters contributed 233 cases.

There was one new cluster, the Sungai Pin cluster in Kinabatangan, detected today.

Masidi said, as of yesterday, 24.7% of the adult population in Sabah have been fully vaccinated while 48.4% have received at least one dose.
