Step down, MP tells political appointees in GLCs, GLICs

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says most of the corporations are professionally run and their resignations will not have much of an impact.

Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says that with the prime minister’s resignation, those appointed by him in GLCs and GLICs no longer have any reason to stay.
PETALING JAYA:
With the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister, it is only right that his political appointees in government-linked corporations (GLCs) and government-linked investment corporations (GLICs) resign immediately, says Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

He said it is the proper and honourable thing to do as there is no reason or legitimacy for political appointees to remain in their posts.

In a Facebook post, Nik Nazmi said that most GLCs and GLICs were professionally run and the appointees’ resignations would not have much impact.

He said the new government must commit to filling these positions professionally and based on merit, rather than purely political considerations.

Muhyiddin, who tendered his resignation after losing majority support, had been under fire over the management of the Covid-19 pandemic and the revocation of the emergency ordinances.

His proposed framework for bipartisan political cooperation last Friday was rejected by Umno and opposition leaders, and the Pagoh MP then presented his resignation to the Yang-di Pertuan Agong during an audience yesterday, making him the shortest-serving Malaysian prime minister.
