
The 64-year-old died at 1.46am at the KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital.
In a statement, MBSB said Zaini, who had four decades of banking experience, was appointed to lead the company on Feb 26, 2009.
“Under his leadership, he transformed this non-banking financial institution by restructuring and turning it around into a profitable organisation.”
The statement said Zaini successfully concluded the merger between MBSB and the Asian Finance Bank.
Zaini had also converted a conventional non-banking financial institution into a full-fledged Islamic bank, it added.
The company said MBSB Bank was now the country’s second full-fledged Islamic bank.
