He said the health ministry has been unable to identify any new cases after a social media post claiming that a participant had contracted the virus during the protest went viral today.
Noor Hisham also said the Delta variant of the virus had become the main variant of concern currently affecting every state.
He added that the vaccines used in the country were still effective against the Delta variant, reducing severe cases requiring hospitalisation, ICU treatment and the need for respiratory assistance.
He said this was seen in Labuan and Sarawak, which used the Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines to address their Delta spread.
“We will look into increasing capacity for full genomic sequencing for us to do geo-mapping of areas with prevalent Delta infections.”
He added that with both vaccination efforts and public health measures, the country would be able to break the Covid-19 infection chain.
On the situation in the Klang Valley, he said ramped-up vaccinations have lowered the number of cases requiring hospitalisation and ICU treatment.
“In the Klang Valley, cases are beginning to stabilise. Now, more cases are affecting other states with lower vaccination rates,” he said, giving Kelantan and Sabah as examples.
He reminded fully vaccinated individuals that they could still be infected by the Delta variant and be asymptomatic, urging them to continue wearing face masks while adhering to other SOPs.
On the Lambda variant, Noor Hisham said there had been no cases so far.
He added that the authorities would tighten border controls and conduct close monitoring of international visitors from countries that had reported cases of the variant.
