PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry will start using electronic digital trackers for those under home quarantine as part of a pilot project.

At a press conference today, Greater Klang Valley task force chairman Dr Chong Chee Kheong said these trackers will be fitted on 1,000 foreigners arriving in the country who will be allowed to undergo quarantine at home.

The project will be completely outsourced to a private company and is aimed at helping the ministry monitor those from abroad, people who have come into close contact with Covid-19 patients and Category 1 and 2 patients, he said.

The deputy health director-general added that hospital beds in the Klang Valley can handle the current influx of cases for up to two weeks for now, especially since there was a decline in new cases this week.

Last week, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that Malaysians and non-Malaysian residents who are fully vaccinated will only need to quarantine at home upon their return.

This was part of the relaxations in SOPs that the fully vaccinated could enjoy.

But this move drew brickbats from certain quarters, including former prime minister Najib Razak who voiced concern over the Delta Plus and Lambda variants abroad.
