This comes two days after nasi kandar outlet Hameediyah Restaurant was told by police and health officials that all its 15 workers must be fully vaccinated before it can allow dining in.
Contacted by FMT, northeast district police chief Soffian Santong Soffian admitted that there was some confusion as earlier SOPs had stated that all workers needed to be vaccinated.
But he said the National Security Council (MKN) had set the record straight yesterday.
“There is no requirement for workers to be fully vaccinated, but employers are obliged to list them at the entrance and declare their vaccination status,” he said.
An aide to senior minister for security Hishammuddin Hussein also confirmed the matter to FMT, saying only customers need to be fully vaccinated, not the workers.
He said that restaurants should display how many of their workers had been fully vaccinated. This would allow customers to decide whether or not they wanted to dine in.
“Enforcement to check if restaurants are declaring the number of workers fully vaccinated is under the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry,” he said.
Dine-ins have been allowed since Aug 10 as part of SOP relaxations announced by the government, but Hameediyah Restaurant was caught by surprise when the authorities paid them a visit on Tuesday.
