State police chief Shafien Mamat said the man, a 32-year-old unemployed local, had been under police surveillance for the past six months.
He said the suspect was arrested at 10.05am by a team from the Narcotics CID of the Kelantan police in Kampung Bendang Pak Yong for possessing heroin weighing 0.1gm and two litres of ketum juice.
“On the same day at 2pm, the suspect took policemen to the bushes by the roadside of Kampung Kuala Jambu where the drugs were hidden.
“Found during the inspection at this location were four black plastic packages containing 80kg of syabu worth RM2,880,000 and 804,000 yaba pills worth RM8,040,000,” he told a press conference at the Tumpat district police headquarters here today.
Shafien said the drugs were believed to be for the market outside of Kelantan and would have supplied syabu to about 400,000 people and yaba to 804,000 people.
He said the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was remanded for seven days until Aug 17.
“The suspect has two previous drug-related records and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
In Penang, police detained two foreign nationals and seized various types of drugs worth RM671,000 after raiding two houses in the state on Sunday.
State deputy chief Fisol Salleh said Penang police teamed up with another team from Bukit Aman’s Narcotics CID to raid a terrace house in Bukit Tengah, 28km from here, at 10pm.
“We nabbed a 56-year-old Myanmar and seized 18.58kg of syabu, 12gm of erimin 5 pills, 50 live 9mm Luger bullets and 56 litres of chemical liquids.
“Also seized were drug processing equipment and weighing equipment. An investigation revealed that the man had been renting the single-storey terrace house over the past two years at RM1,100 a month.
“Investigations also found that the man, who had been staying in this country for 10 years, used his rented house as a drug storage facility.
“His passport and travel documents had expired in 2017,” he told a media conference here today.
Subsequently, Fisol said police raided a condominium unit in Gelugor here and detained a 31-year-old Vietnamese woman and seized syabu weighing 45.4gm from her.
He said the woman had been staying in the condominium unit for the past two years, renting it for RM1,200 a month.
He said she was the girlfriend of the drug distribution syndicate chief, a local man detained in Selangor recently.
“These two raids were follow-ups to the arrests of 10 individuals, including three women, involved in a drug distribution syndicate in the Klang Valley recently.”
