Govt eases restrictions for fully vaccinated

Several rules will be relaxed for those who are fully vaccinated.

PETALING JAYA:
Putrajaya has announced the relaxation of several rules for those who have been fully vaccinated from Aug 10.

It includes allowing couples in long-distance relationships to travel and meet each other as well as parents to visit their children below the age of 18.

“Those who have been fully inoculated can also pray in suraus and mosques, while non-Muslims are also allowed to pray in their respective houses of worship,” Prime Minister Muhyidin Yasin said in a special televised address.

He said all those going for prayers must show their digital vaccination certificates before entering any house of worship.

Malaysians and non-Malaysians with residences in the country will only need to quarantine at home.

The easing of the restrictions above applies to all phases of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), he said.

As for states under Phase 2 of the NRP, inter-district travel will also be allowed for fully vaccinated individuals.

“They are required to show their Covid-19 digital certificate to authorities at roadblocks to prove that they have been fully inoculated.”

Dining in at eateries will also be allowed for fully vaccinated individuals in all states under Phase 2 of the NRP.

But due to the higher risk of one getting infected as patrons have to unmask, Muhyiddin advised the public to only dine in when necessary and not spend too much time at the eatery.

“If possible, opt for take-away and select premises which are either open-air or have good ventilation.”

He also advised eatery owners to provide more tables outside the premises to ensure better ventilation.

They must also ensure that their patrons produce their digital certificates before allowing them in.

Muhyiddin said that sporting activities will also be allowed in states under Phase 2 from 6am till 10pm, as long as it does not involve group or physical contact.

“Jogging, cycling, badminton, hiking and golfing among others will be allowed”.

Hotels and homestays will be allowed to operate within the state with only fully vaccinated guests allowed.

The National Security Council said it will release more details on these new rules in the near future.

Muhyiddin went on to say that while the government was giving certain leeway to those who had been fully vaccinated, it did not mean that the public should ignore the SOPs.

He said he has instructed the home minister to ensure that the relevant ministries and agencies under it step up enforcement.

“We will not hesitate to revoke these flexibilities if SOPs and guidelines are not adhered to.”

The health ministry, he added, would not rule out shutting down premises where Covid-19 cases are detected or issue compounds to those who flout the SOPs.
