Pangkor goes from Covid-free to EMCO at 6 localities

The island was included in the tourism ministry’s 'Covid-19 Free Destination' programme last month.

The EMCO will run from Aug 8-21.

Six localities in the popular tourist destination of Pulau Pangkor in Perak will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from Aug 8-21, says senior minister for security Hishammuddin Hussein.

In a statement today, Hishammuddin said the localities are Taman Seri Pangkor, Taman Desa Pangkor, Rumah Murah Pangkor, Ladang Kong Heap Lee, Kampung Tengah and Flat Taman Desa Pangkor.

Only late last month, the island was included in the tourism ministry’s “Covid-19 Free Destination” programme as it was set to achieve 80% herd immunity by early September.

Four other localities in Perak will also be placed under EMCO during the same period – the Horizon construction site and the Batu Gajah Correctional Centre in Kinta, as well as Kampung Perlok and Kampung Perlok Baru in Batang Padang.

Three localities in Temerloh, Pahang, will also be placed under EMCO – Taman Sri Layang, Taman Rimba and Taman Tualang Indah.

In Sabah, the University Condominium Apartment 2 and Rumah Murah Kepayan in Kota Kinabalu, as well as Kampung Lohan 1 in Ranau, are all set to be placed under EMCO.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at several localities in Sabah are set to end tomorrow.

They are Blocks D and E of Apartment Angkasa, Taman Sepanggar, Kampung Sepakat Jaya, Kampung Rampayan and Kampung Lokub in Kota Kinabalu; Taman Sabana Fasa 1 in Keningau; Kampung Berhala Darat and Kampung Melayu Bumiputra in Sandakan; Kampung Nagapas in Papar; and Kampung Kolam in Kudat.

The EMCO at Taman Hock Ann along Jalan Klang Lama in Kuala Lumpur is also set to end tomorrow.

Hishammuddin also said the EMCO at the workers’ quarters at the Pelitanah 1 & 2 farms in Mukah, Sarawak, as well as Bandar Sinsuran in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah would be extended.

The EMCO at the former is now set to end on Aug 14 while at the latter it will draw to a close on Aug 21.

Meanwhile, the SOP compliance task force ordered 67 premises to close yesterday after failing to comply with SOPs.

Hishammuddin also said 225 people were arrested yesterday over MCO-related offences, with 194 issued compound fines and 31 remanded.

The authorities also detained 15 undocumented migrants and seized four vehicles as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign.

On mandatory quarantine, Hishammuddin said 264,313 people who arrived at KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 last year to Aug 5 this year and were placed under quarantine.

A total of 3,817 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, 250,603 have been allowed to return home, and 9,893 are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
