PETALING JAYA:
The body of a baby girl has been found in a drain near a durian orchard in Balik Pulau, Penang.

When discovered yesterday afternoon, the baby still had her umbilical cord attached.

Barat Daya district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said they received a report from a doctor and found the body at 2.30pm in Pondok Upeh..

The doctor, from the Balik Pulau Hospital, said he had attended to a foreign worker who was bleeding from her uterus after just giving birth.

“The doctor found the placenta in her uterus but the suspect refused to give information on the birth,” Kamarul said.

“Preliminary investigations found the woman was admitted to hospital on Monday after being found unconscious and covered in blood by her employer at 6pm,” he told Harian Metro.

Kamarul said the woman claimed she intended to bury the baby when it was stillborn but began to feel faint near a drain and the baby slipped from her grip.

“The suspect also admitted that she was pregnant as a result of her relationship with a worker who lived near her workplace,” he said.

Police are looking for the man.

The woman is being detained at the hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

She is believed to have been taking care of her employer’s father since February last year.
