PETALING JAYA:
Perlis, Sarawak and Labuan will be entering Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan on Wednesday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced today.

In a Facebook post, Muhyiddin said the two states and the federal territory were “performing well”, but reminded citizens there to continue following SOPs.

Earlier in June, Labuan was facing a full-blown health crisis with a surge in Covid-19 cases and 68 deaths in just days.

But with the government ramping up vaccinations since mid-June, it has become the first among federal territories and states to achieve herd immunity, with 80% of adults fully vaccinated as of July 27.

“I hope that with everyone’s cooperation more states will be able to move to the next phase. We must continue moving forward so that the nation will recover systematically and safely,” Muhyiddin said.

Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu and Sabah will remain under Phase 2, while Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya and Johor are still in Phase 1.

Muhyiddin also said the National Security Council (MKN) had discussed the freedoms that fully vaccinated individuals would be given, particularly for economic sectors.

He said the matter needed to be considered carefully to ensure the economy may heal and the people’s quality of life may improve, adding that an announcement would be made “soon”.

Previously, deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said SOP relaxations for the fully vaccinated would be announced after Hari Raya Aidiladha, but this announcement has been delayed.
