Gobind Singh Deo (PH-Puchong) told deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon the issue needs to be debated, and Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (PH-Sepang) said Rashid must make a decision on behalf of Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun.
Rashid was presiding at the special Parliament sitting this morning.
Takiyuddin had dropped a bombshell in Parliament on Monday when he disclosed that the emergency ordinances had been revoked as of July 21.
MPs from both sides of the divide had questioned him on whether the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had approved the revocation, but he had remained silent, saying Azhar had ruled that he give his reply only on Monday.
Today, Gobind said the matter needed to be debated immediately and asked Rashid if it would be debated.
However, the deputy speaker said he had not formally received any such motion.
Hanipa said he had “acknowledgement” that the House had received the motion. He said the MPs present should decide if the motion should be debated.
“I request the hall to decide if the motion should be debated, not the Speaker as he may be biased,” he said.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) asked why the copies of the emergency ordinances had been placed on the desks of the MPs if they were revoked on July 21.
“If it is true, then why were these (papers) placed on our desks? Kota Bharu (Takiyuddin) is confusing the Dewan,” he said.
Rashid told Rayer he would refer the matter to Azhar.
On a separate issue, Fahmi Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai) asked health minister Dr Adham Baba why police had recorded statements from doctors who took part in the Hartal Doktor Kontrak campaign, when Adham had given an assurance yesterday that no action would be taken against them.
He asked Rashid to instruct Adham to explain. Rashid said he would raise the matter with the minister.
