A “motivational speaker” has been fined RM1,500 by the police for speaking without a mask during a programme at a transit centre for the homeless in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

A 49-second video of the man speaking at the Jalan Pahang shelter has gone viral, with the man seen talking to an elderly man believed to be among the homeless at the centre.

The man was speaking to 20 homeless individuals at the centre during a talk titled “Change Your Life” at 11.30am yesterday.

“The man in the video was summoned to the Dang Wangi district police station at 5.20pm today to give his statement over the incident,” said district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

He was fined under Rule 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342).

Earlier today, netizens had lashed out against the individual for the way he spoke to the elderly man during his speech at the transit centre.
