Zhiehara Toding, 22, a motel worker, pleaded guilty to two counts of using an identity card belonging to someone else — Nor Syarifah Mushin — on her MySejahtera app.

She also admitted to possessing a fake MyKad, with the name “Ziehara Boisi”, in Sungai Pinang on July 17.

Magistrate Manomani Ramanathan sentenced Ziehara to a total of RM14,000 in fines for both offences or seven months in jail.

The Indonesian was charged under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1960, for which offenders can be jailed for up to three years or fined a maximum of RM20,000 or both.

Journalists were disallowed from entering the courthouse today due to Covid-19 restrictions.

According to deputy public prosecutor Azry Ahmad, the accused had entered Malaysia four years ago without any valid documents.

Separately, state National Registration Department director Nur Zulfa Ibrahim said the accused was caught in a raid.

He said officials were unable to get her legal name as she did not have a passport.

He said the department had prosecuted nine people for various offences related to fake identities last year and 11 cases so far this year.
