Cops dismiss viral tweet on ’empty syringe’ at Bangi PPV

An investigation following a report by the BACC chief executive officer over the tweet, showed the claim was a result of a misunderstanding, the Kajang district police chief said.

People are advised to avoid misconceptions that could lead to public anxiousness and disrupt public order involving the vaccination programme.
PETALING JAYA:
The police did not receive any report from a man who was said to have claimed he was “vaccinated” with an empty syringe at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre (BACC) on Saturday.

In dismissing the claim, Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said police carried out an investigation after a report was lodged by the BACC chief executive officer on Sunday afternoon over the tweet which had gone viral.

“No police report was lodged by the man nor any other individual over the claim that the syringe was empty when it was administered on him.

“Instead, a police report was lodged to deny the incident. We found no pictures nor videos of the incident,” he said in a Facebook post.

Zaid added that the investigation also found that the staff at the vaccination centre had clearly communicated and explained the vaccination procedure to the man and that he was satisfied with the explanation.

“We believe that the complainant may have misunderstood and thought that he had been injected with an empty syringe when he had actually received the Sinovac vaccine,” Zaid said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

“Investigations also revealed that the tweet was made by the man’s girlfriend and it quickly went viral.

“The public is advised to be cautious when making statements or creating posts which cannot be verified, especially involving sensitive issues.

“This is to avoid misconceptions which could lead to public anxiousness and disrupt public order involving the vaccination programme,” he said.
