Bersih 2.0 seeks donations for three ‘Black Flag’ protestors

PETALING JAYA:
Electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 has called for public donations to help three activists who were each slapped with RM2,000 compound for joining an anti-government protest at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday.

In a statement on its Twitter account, Bersih 2.0 said donations can be made to Pertubuhan Liga Rakyat Demokratik’s Maybank account at 564164453465.

“Bersih 2.0 stands in solidarity with the Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat activists who were issued compounds after a recent protest,” it said on its Twitter page.

The three activists were issued the compounds after being questioned by police for three hours at the Dang Wangi police station on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said yesterday that DAP Kuala Lumpur’s legal team was ready to offer its services to the activists on a pro bono basis to take the case to court.

In a statement, Lim said the compound was “undemocratic” and unnecessary as the protest was a peaceful one held in compliance with Covid-19 SOPs.

Police previously said a group of 40 people had gathered at Dataran Merdeka to protest against the Perikatan National (PN) government’s management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat, the 40-minute protest saw protestors waving 14 black flags and carrying a banner with the hashtag #KeluarDanLawan (come out and fight), while standing in front of several effigies of corpses.
