Notice being issued for five-day 'special sitting' but Speaker says debates will be held from Sept 6-30, Oct 25-Dec 16.

The Dewan Rakyat will issue a notice immediately to all MPs about the five-day “special sitting” from July 26.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The Dewan Rakyat will sit again for proper debates on Sept 6 to Sept 30 and again from Oct 25 to Dec 16, after the five-day “special sitting” scheduled from July 26.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah would officiate the Sept 6 sitting.

Meanwhile, he said the Dewan Rakyat will issue a notice immediately to all MPs about the five-day “special sitting” from July 26.

Azhar said the lower house secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin will issue a notice to all MPs on this, pursuant to Standing Order 11(3).

“All MPs need to adhere to the SOPs during the special sitting,” he added.

On July 5, the Prime Minister’s Office announced a five-day sitting from July 26 to brief MPs on the national recovery plan.

The announcement came after repeated calls from the Palace for Parliament to reconvene to discuss measures on the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The five-day sitting has been severely criticised by MPs, citing that it was too short for any beneficial debate.
