PETALING JAYA:
Selangor police have launched an investigation into glove maker Top Glove Corp Bhd for transporting more than 1,000 of its workers to eight hotels before the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) came into effect.

Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed said the company had moved 1,606 workers out of their dormitories in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya after the government announced that the EMCO would be imposed on July 3.

They were relocated to eight different hotels, also in Selangor. The workers have been tested for Covid-19, while the police are not allowing them to leave the hotels.

The motive behind relocating them is not known.

Arjunaidi told FMT that Top Glove’s management has already given their statement to the police over the matter, and investigations are ongoing.

He said the case was being probed under Section 270 of the Penal Code for committing a malignant act likely to spread the infection of a dangerous disease.

The offence under Section 270 is punishable with a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, if convicted.

In a recent viral video, a lady claimed that the surge in Covid-19 cases in Selangor was caused by a glove factory that relocated its migrant workers from their hostels to hotels in Klang. She also claimed some of the workers had died of Covid-19.
