KOTA KINABALU:
A civil servant was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today for accepting a RM20,000 bribe two years ago.

According to a source, the administrative assistant in his 40s is believed to have sought the payment from a shipping company at a port here.

The man was detained after going to the Sabah MACC office at 9am to give his statement.

State MACC chief S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 165 of the Penal Code.

It is understood the suspect will be charged at the sessions court here tomorrow.

In an unrelated case, MACC also arrested a lorry driver on suspicion of offering a RM1,000 bribe to a policeman in the Tawau east coast district.

It is learnt that the man, in his 40s, tried to offer the money in return for the release of his foster brother who had been arrested earlier for gambling in a cockfight.

Karunanithy said the man has been released on bail and will be charged in the Tawau court soon.
