In a statement today, chief minister Chow Kon Yeow thanked the governor for being involved in talks with the King to approve the sitting, with a reply from the monarch received on Tuesday.
He said the state government had proposed to hold the sitting on Sept 1, pending advice from the health authorities and the National Security Council (MKN).
Chow said that in a letter sent to the governor, the King said he had “permitted the assembly to be held after the emergency period ends on Aug 1”.
Penang assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang said based on the standing orders, a 28-day notification has to be given to assembly members before a sitting can be held.
