Vaccination on the spot at Covid-hotspot Mentari Court

Residents are being vaccinated at the flats instead of vaccination centres, says MP Maria Chin.

The 17,000 residents in the blocks of flats in PJS8 have been under lockdown since July 1 and are being tested and vaccinated on the spot.
PETALING JAYA:
The Selangor government’s decision to vaccinate all Mentari Court residents currently under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the flats itself, a move believed to be the first in the country, has been hailed by local MP Maria Chin Abdullah.

Speaking to FMT, the Petaling Jaya MP said she was also glad no questions were asked as to the residents’ legal status in the country before they were vaccinated.

The 17,000 residents in the seven blocks of flats in PJS8 have been under lockdown since July 1 after a rise in Covid-19 cases in the area, and residents have been undergoing mandatory mass testing since then – with those who tested negative getting their jabs from today onwards.

“I think this is the first time this has been done in Malaysia – or at least in Selangor,” Maria told FMT.

“This is really good because the solution to stopping the virus is through vaccines.

“They were not asked for their ICs (identity cards) or passports. Documented or undocumented, everybody was being vaccinated… and I hope more people will come forward,” added the PKR lawmaker.

Visiting the area today, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said the vaccination drive at Mentari Court will be replicated in other areas under EMCO in the state.

He added that 127 of the 1,200 residents tested today were positive.

Amirudin said that around 8,000 Mentari Court residents who tested negative since mass testing began last Thursday are expected to be vaccinated in the coming days, with 1,500 targeted to get their jabs today alone.

He told reporters that health personnel and police will be going door-to-door to talk to residents who have refused to be screened for Covid-19, stressing that all residents have to be screened.

So far, 98 households have yet to be screened.
