PETALING JAYA:
Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat has been announced as the new Selangor PKR Youth chief effective immediately, its secretary Syukri Razab said today.

Syukri said the state’s new leadership line-up will be announced after discussions with Selangor division leaders are completed.

This comes after Selangor PKR Youth head Najwan Halimi was recently sacked, although he was not booted from the party.

In a statement, Syukri said a total of six names were submitted as candidates for the Selangor Youth chief position and were given due consideration by the party’s Youth chief Akmal Nasir.

“The main considerations are to ensure that PKR’s idealism continues, to maintain Pakatan Harapan’s victory in Selangor, and continue the party’s efforts to produce more young leaders,” he said.

Syukri said the national PKR Youth wing was confident that this decision would be able to strengthen the position of the party in Selangor.

“PKR Youth calls on all of its members, especially in Selangor to provide strong cooperation and support to Chua Wei Kiat as the new Selangor PKR Youth chief for Selangor in our efforts to continue to champion the issues related to youths,” he said.

It was reported earlier today that Najwan and several other former leaders slammed Akmal for being the “weakest and most ineffective” leader in the wing’s history.

This follows a reshuffle in the wing’s leadership, which saw Najwan, his Perlis counterpart Nor Azam Karap and four others removed from their posts.
