Repeal EOs or they’re valid for another 6 months, says DAP man

DAP Youth chief Howard Lee cites Article 150(7) of the Federal Constitution, which states that emergency ordinances are still valid for six months after the Emergency ends.

Both houses of Parliament need to pass the motion to repeal the emergency ordinances, says Howard Lee.
PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan MPs and senators must table and pass the motion to repeal all the emergency ordinances (EOs) that were enacted in the last six months as soon as Parliament is reopened.

In an online forum with Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad and Amanah Youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin today, DAP Youth chief Howard Lee said that it is important for the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara to reconvene after Aug 1, so that all the unfair EOs can be removed.

Lee, who is also Pasir Pinji assemblyman, cited Article 150(7) of the Federal Constitution, which states that EOs are still valid for six months after the Emergency ends.

“If these EOs are still in place even after the Emergency ends, we will not have any proper check and balance against the government.

DAP Youth chief Howard Lee.

“The only remedy we have to repeal the unjust EOs is under Article 150(2C), which is for both Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara to pass,” Lee added.

Istana Negara previously said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah wanted Parliament to be reconvened as soon as possible to allow for the emergency ordinances and national recovery plan to be debated by MPs.

The Conference of Rulers also issued a joint statement saying that the Emergency should not be extended beyond Aug 1.

Meanwhile, Shazni told the forum that the government should not take lightly the “white flag movement” or #benderaputih, that was started through social media.

The movement is aimed at helping those who are facing difficulties to signal to neighbours and their community that they are in need of assistance.

“We (PH) are not involved in it. This is purely a social movement for the people to help each other during this difficult time.

“If anyone, be it neighbours, community leaders or assemblymen, sees one white flag outside a house, please step forward to help them,” Shazni added.
