PETALING JAYA:
Bukit Aman logistics and technology department director Mazlan Lazim has been named the new deputy inspector-general of police.

The appointment was announced by home minister Hamzah Zainudin today after presenting the 59-year-old with his appointment letter.

The post had been vacant after Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani was promoted as the nation’s top cop on May 4.

Mazlan’s appointment, which takes effect immediately, has ended speculation over who will succeed Acryl Sani.

Prior to this, it was reported that others considered for the post included Bukit Aman integrity and standard compliance department director Zamri Yahya and management director Ramli Din.

Mazlan is the former Kuala Lumpur police chief.

Born in Kota Setar, Kedah, Mazlan also previously served as the Kelantan police chief.
