BN, Umno MPs won’t back any no-confidence motion

The 41 BN MPs hope Parliament will focus on the issues the people are struggling with at the next sitting.

PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno MPs will not support a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin if it is tabled when Parliament reconvenes.

In a joint statement today, the 41 BN MPs agreed that Parliament should reconvene according to the stipulations of the Standing Orders or “any other required amendments”.

They hoped that the Parliament sitting would focus on the issues the people were struggling with as the nation battled the pandemic.

“Hence, to uphold the King’s decree for the political temperature to be cooled down, we agree not to support any motion of no confidence if it is tabled,” they said.

They added that Umno and BN ministers and deputy ministers remained fully committed to executing their duties well in their respective portfolios.

The MPs said the priority of the coalition’s MPs was to ensure the livelihoods of Malaysians and focus on their well-being.

“Umno and BN MPs also agreed to continue supporting the national recovery plan presented by the government.”

Meanwhile, former prime minister Najib Razak said many had misunderstood that a no-confidence motion would be tabled when Parliament reconvenes, clarifying that this was up to the speaker of the House.

Najib said this has happened numerous times last year after Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Shafie Apdal and other Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs submitted motions of no confidence against Muhyiddin.

“That’s why the question of a no-confidence motion doesn’t arise when Parliament reconvenes because the (Dewan Rakyat) speaker appointed by Perikatan Nasional will not allow it.

“As written in the King’s decree last week, the emergency ordinances and national recovery plan will need to be debated and approved as soon as Parliament reconvenes,” he said in a Facebook post today.
