Know your facts, Shahidan tells Zahid on 14-day ultimatum

The Arau MP also reminds those labelling the current government useless that a majority of the ministers are from Umno.

PETALING JAYA:
An Umno Supreme Council member has taken a veiled jab at Ahmad Zahid Hamidi after the party president issued the government an ultimatum to reconvene Parliament.

Shahidan Kassim said that while a majority of Barisan Nasional MPs agreed that Parliament should be reopened soon, it required a 28-day notice.

“Not 14 days, that is incorrect,” the former federal minister in charge of parliamentary affairs said in a statement.

Zahid issued the 14-day ultimatum yesterday, with the countdown beginning immediately.

The Arau MP, who had previously broken ranks with the party on working with Bersatu in the next general election, went on to advise against reprimanding the government openly.

“And if you want to give your views, make sure it is accurate,” said Shahidan who had been removed as Perlis Umno chief in April.

He also said those who label the current administration useless, should keep in mind that a majority of the ministers are from Umno.

“So how can the government be useless when there are many Umno MPs in the Cabinet?”

Last week, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said he wanted Parliament to reconvene as soon as possible.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had previously said Parliament can reconvene in September or October if the daily Covid-19 cases drop to below 2,000.

Parliament, which was suspended after the Emergency was announced in January, last met in December.
