EMCO at 2 localities in Sabah

The areas will be placed under the enhanced movement control order from June 24 until July 7.

Two localities in Kunak, Sabah will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from June 24 until July 7.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO will affect Kampung Pangi Hujung and Kampung JKR Lama.

Ismail said the decision was made following high positivity rates and a spike in Covid-19 cases in these areas.

In Kampung Pangi Hujung, 11 of 16 tests returned positive while in Kampung JKR Lama, 15 positive cases were recorded.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Kampung Kebayau in Kota Belud, Sabah will be extended until July 7.

He added that EMCO at several localities will be lifted today and tomorrow. The EMCO at Taman Perdana in Lahad Datu, Sabah will end today as scheduled.

Meanwhile, EMCOs at other localities such as Kampung Sungai Obar, Batu 7 and Fasa 9B Taman Indah Jaya in Sandakan, Sabah; Kampung Sungai Penchala in Kuala Lumpur; Kampung Sin San and Kampung Singgahmata in Kudat, Sabah will end tomorrow.

Ismail also said police arrested 959 people for breaching MCO rules yesterday. Of that number, 923 were fined while 36 were remanded.

Among the offences were not maintaining physical distancing (251), crossing district and state borders without police permission/dining in (198), failure to register personal details prior to entering premises (144), failure to wear a face mask (134), failure to follow movement control rules (84), exceeding the car passenger limit (64), premises going against SOPs (19), activities at entertainment outlets (4) and others (61).

The authorities also detained 35 undocumented migrants and seized seven vehicles as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign yesterday.
