In a statement today, he said 398,846 of the 578,105 Covid-19 infections reported as of June 19 were sporadic cases, coming up to 69%.
States with the highest rates of sporadic cases were Selangor with 151,725 cases (38%), Kuala Lumpur (44,517 cases – 11.2%) and Sarawak (40,889 – 10.3%).
The districts in Selangor with high sporadic cases were Petaling (3,905 cases), Hulu Langat (2,783) and Klang (2,482).
Noor Hisham explained that the term sporadic cases refers to cases detected in the community that cannot be linked to any clusters.
“These sporadic cases are detected through screenings at workplaces, in communities or on individuals with symptoms,” he said.
“What is more concerning is that most of these sporadic cases do not exhibit symptoms but are still capable of infecting anyone around them if SOPs are not observed properly.”

While the MCO seemed successful in controlling infections in clusters from June 13 to 19, he said sporadic cases did not show a similar development.
In view of the denser population in the Klang Valley and the rising sporadic asymptomatic cases, he advised the general public to continue staying at home unless they really have to leave the house.
“It is hard for us to determine who has Covid-19 among us. So it is very important for everyone to take note of this development and protect themselves and their families from Covid-19.”
