KOTA KINABALU:
Police are investigating the case of a woman, said to be a business entrepreneur, who was seen in a video yelling at policemen at a roadblock here.

In the video, which went viral recently, the woman could be seen having a go at a traffic policeman and his colleagues at the roadblock in Kepayan here. It is believed the incident took place on June 1.

The woman was believed to have been annoyed after being made to wait 30 minutes before she was told of her offences.

It was found later that her road tax had expired and that her vehicle insurance was also not renewed.

It was also claimed that the policemen had made sarcastic comments at the woman.

Sabah police commissioner Hazani Ghazali said police will be calling in the woman to record her statement, adding the deputy public prosecutor had advised the police to open investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“We will probe the matter from both sides, not only from one angle. I never jump to conclusions,” he said.

“If my men said nasty words, then we will take appropriate action against them. If the woman triggered the situation, then we will also take action as allowed under the law.”

To a question why the police issued a fine to her for the expired road tax since people could not go to renew the travel document during the movement control order (MCO) period, Hazani said the woman’s road tax had expired in January.

“How many MCOs have we had already? We lifted it twice, so is it logical or not (for her not to renew the road tax)?

“Even if the road tax had expired, the car insurance should be renewed,” he said.

Ever since the video went viral, netizens were divided in their views over the actions of the woman and her claims against the policemen.

At one point in the video, a policeman could be seen trying to calm the woman down, telling her they were only carrying out their duty. But she told them off, saying she was also doing the same.

Later in the video, she could be heard saying she was on her way to send assistance to the needy.

The woman can also be seen schooling one of the policemen on the manners of treating women, saying they should not be egoistic.

Before getting into her vehicle to leave the roadblock, the woman could also be heard shouting “biadap” (rude) at the policemen.
