Kaamatan gathering may have caused new cluster, says Masidi

A Kaamatan gathering is believed to be the cause of a new Covid-19 cluster near the outskirts of the state capital.

Sabah local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said 27 new cases were detected at Kampung Kionsom Kecil in Inanam near here today.

“The Kaamatan gathering is suspected to have triggered a new cluster in Kampung Kionsom Kecil, adding 27 new cases to Kota Kinabalu’s 60 cases today,” he said in a Twitter post.

Yesterday, health authorities detected 13 positive cases after screening 36 individuals at the village, which will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from tomorrow.

Masidi, the state’s official Covid-19 spokesman, said Sabah recorded 184 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative cases in the state to 66,730.

Among districts that contributed to the number of new cases reported were Tawau (33 cases), Kunak (15) and Penampang (12).

He said 13 districts registered only single-digit cases while 10 other districts did not report any new infections.
