KOTA KINABALU:
The Sabah Cabinet has decided on a 50% pay cut for two months for all state ministers and assistant ministers effective this month to help fight Covid-19.

Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who is also the state finance minister, said this after chairing the state Cabinet meeting here yesterday.

He said all Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) assemblymen will also forgo 30% of their pay for a month.

“All savings will go towards a Covid-19 fund to manage this pandemic.

“We, in the GRS government, stand in solidarity with the people in these trying times,” he said in a statement today.

At the meeting, the state Cabinet also announced the Bantuan Sabah Prihatin 3.0 Covid-19 totalling RM120,469,481 and a further RM34.4 million for food aid to be distributed to those affected by the pandemic.

Meanwhile, state secretary Safar Untong said civil servants in the state would also contribute to the Covid-19 fund.

He said this was in line with the announcement by the chief secretary over the contributions of fixed sums by the public sector to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic.

“The Sabah civil service management has decided that public servants from Grade 29 to Grade Turus (higher grades) will also contribute to the state disaster (Covid-19) fund,” he said in a statement.

This will involve deductions from their fixed entertainment allowances and other allowances for June and July, he said, adding the deductions are the same as that applied on federal civil servants.

Safar said the exercise will not involve staff at government-linked companies in the state.
