Reporting fewer cases without adjusting test numbers meaningless, govt told

Dr Amar-Singh HSS and Najib Razak say the latest positivity rate remains high.

Dr Amar-Singh HSS says the latest positivity rate of between 6.5% and 7.9% shows fewer tests are being conducted.
PETALING JAYA:
It is meaningless to report lower Covid-19 cases when insufficient tests are being conducted, health authorities were told today.

Dr Amar-Singh HSS said it does not make sense to report that daily case numbers are going down without adjusting the test numbers.

The test positivity rate remains high at a range of between 6.5% and 7.9% from May 29 to June 7, which means fewer tests are being conducted, he said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Najib Razak said he noticed that the number of Covid-19 screenings had fallen consistently, from 125,000 to 80,000 yesterday.

“Despite this, the positivity rate (the total positive cases compared to the total screening), the number of intensive care units’ (ICU) patients and the number of new clusters detected daily remain consistently high,” he said in a Facebook post.

Najib said he hoped the government will explain this.
