Yeo said that despite the government’s repeated pledges that Malaysia would reach 150,000 doses per day by June, none of the days in the first week of the month had hit this target.
“To reach 150,000 doses per day on average in June, we will now need to increase the vaccination rate to 168,244 doses per day for the remaining days of the month,” she said in a statement today.
Yeo said the government should not use the trick of announcing vaccination rates only on days when numbers were high and keeping quiet on lower days.
She said she would continue to keep track of doses every day to ensure that the promised rate of 150,000 daily doses during the month of June is upheld.
Recently, science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that Malaysia will receive nearly 16 million additional Covid-19 vaccine doses by July.
This included 12 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine, 2.2 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and 1.2 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
With the vaccines here, he said, the vaccination rate was expected to increase to 150,000 injections a day by June.
