EMCO in localities in Sarawak, Perak and Sabah

This follows a surge in Covid-19 cases in these areas.

The enhanced movement control order will restrict movement of people in these areas and is intended to bring the virus under control.

Several localities in Sarawak, Perak and Sabah and one in Pahang will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from Monday, following a surge in Covid-19 cases.

In Sarawak, four longhouses, SK St Luke and a health clinic in Dalat will come under EMCO on June 7 after 27 Covid-19 cases were detected.

The four longhouses are Rumah Panjang anak Umba, Rumah Panjang Tulu anak Sli, Rumah Panjang anak Duah Entingi and Rumah Panjang Balin anak Gema.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said two localities in Perak will be placed under EMCO.

The hostel housing Eco Medi Glove factory workers in Taiping will go under EMCO on Monday after 75 Covid-19 cases were detected.

The EMCO at two villages in Ulu Kinta, namely Kampung Jelapang Baru and Kampung Sungai Tapah, will also come into effect until June 19.

A total of 15 villagers tested positive for the virus.

In Sabah, three villages in Tawau, a Felda estate in Kalabakan and an apartment building in Sandakan will go under EMCO from June 7 to June 20.

The three villages are Kampung Blok 31; Kampung Sentosa, Blok 5, Hilltop; and Kampung Bukit Kukusan, Tanjung Batu.

A total of 49 villagers tested positive for Covid-19.

Ten from Felda Umas 4 and 18 residents from Taman Permata Apartment contracted the virus.

Meanwhile, Kampung Gunung Senyum, a village in Kuala Krau, Temerloh, Pahang, will come under EMCO from June 7 to June 20 after 22 villagers tested positive for Covid-19.

Ismail also said police arrested 952 people for flouting the SOPs, a majority of whom were detained for not wearing face masks.

Of that number, 870 were issued compound fines, while 81 were remanded. Only one was released on police bail.

Authorities also nabbed 16 undocumented migrants and seized eight vessels.

He also said 698,332 foreign workers had been screened for the virus since Feb 1, of which 10,330 tested positive for Covid-19.
