6,999 Covid-19 cases, 79 deaths

There are 78,017 active cases with 846 patients being treated in intensive care and 419 requiring respiratory assistance.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 6,999 Covid-19 cases and 79 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,121 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 484,787.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 565,533.

There are 78,017 active cases with 846 patients being treated in intensive care and 419 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 79 deaths take the number of fatalities to 2,729.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 2,477, followed by Kuala Lumpur (616), Kelantan (612), Sarawak (513), Negeri Sembilan (468) Johor (433), Kedah (422), Penang (248), Pahang (239), Terengganu (214), Perak (212), Melaka (202), Sabah (190), Labuan (133), Putrajaya (13) and Perlis (7).

There were 6,993 local infections, involving 6,385 Malaysians and 610 foreigners, as well as four imported cases.

The 79 deceased were all Malaysians except for one foreigner, between the ages of 33 and 87. All but 10 of them had existing medical conditions.

Eight of the deceased were brought in dead.
