After Tajuddin fiasco, Lim says time for political appointees to quit

DAP secretary-general says politicians appointed to top positions should resign if they aren't qualified or professional enough for the job.

Tajuddin Abdul Rahman made many blunders at the press conference on the LRT crash, even telling the media not to provoke him.
PETALING JAYA:
After the brickbats hurled at Prasarana chairman Tajuddin Abdul Rahman following a press conference yesterday, Lim Guan Eng says it is high time for political appointees to quit their posts in GLCs.

The DAP secretary-general said politicians appointed to these top positions by the Perikatan Nasional-led government should resign if they were not qualified or professional enough for the job.

He said Prasarana’s response to the LRT collision which left 213 injured was “disturbing” and left a lot to be desired, citing Tajuddin’s press conference yesterday where he told the media not to “provoke” him or “sensationalise” things when queried on certain issues.

“It lends urgency for politicians to be replaced as chairmen by competent and qualified professionals capable of doing a proper job,” Lim said in a statement today.

Netizens had slammed Tajuddin and even called for him to be sacked over the press conference yesterday, which was deemed insensitive and rude.

In a Facebook post today, former prime minister Najib Razak said the Pasir Salak MP had admitted his mistakes and was sorry for his conduct.

Meanwhile, Lim also called on transport minister Wee Ka Siong to ensure that others found negligent in the LRT accident would be held accountable, not just the driver.

“Can any LRT train just get on a train line without the controller in the command centre knowing or the automated computer tracking system alerting, signalling, or ringing alarm bells that two trains are on the same track but in the opposite direction?

“No stone must be left unturned to arrive at the truth of the accident that has caused injuries to 213 passengers, of which 3 are in critical condition.”

Wee has clarified that human error was only one part of the investigations into the crash.
