PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan (PH) has urged the education ministry to clarify the status of a directly awarded contract worth RM1.9 million to produce 800 educational TV programmes, which was set to be completed two months ago.

Its education committee noted that the project was previously extended from Nov 30 to March 31 this year, after the company involved was unable to meet the earlier deadline.

“Have all the 800 programmes been completed or has the project been postponed again?

“If that is true, how much longer will the government allow it to be postponed?” it asked in a statement.

Following the delay, PH asked if the government was paying any additional costs to the company.

It also asked why the education ministry decided to air its educational network DidikTV on Media Prima’s NTV7, when it could have done so on RTM for free.

Given that it was a private company, PH questioned how much the ministry was paying Media Prima for 17 hours of airtime each day.

“What is the rationale and benefit to the people and the education ministry to pay for DidikTV, when the government can use its own broadcasting facilities during the Emergency?”

PH added that the same programmes had not been uploaded onto educational platforms Delima and EduwebTV, although online classes had already begun under the third movement control order.

“What is the number of DidikTV viewers so far? Has it been worth the tens of millions of ringgit of the people’s money, compared to the number of consumers?

“What’s certain is that everything is still vague and unclear. What is the direction of educational TV, under education minister Radzi Jidin?”
