MCMC denies Syed Saddiq’s claims on seized phone

The Muar MP said his phone and social media accounts had been seized by the police on instructions from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has denied Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s allegations that they had instructed the police to confiscate his mobile phone.

The former youth and sports minister was questioned for nearly two hours at the Dang Wangi police station yesterday regarding videos he had made regarding the custodial death of milk trader A Ganapathy.

In addition to his phone, he told reporters that both his Instagram and TikTok accounts were handed over to police, which he alleged was also on the instruction of MCMC.

In a statement today, MCMC said it “did not issue any instructions to seize the evidence required by the police,” and said they would continue to offer technical assistance in the case without any agenda, political or otherwise.

The commission also denied the existence of special units mobilised for political purposes or sabotage campaigns, as alleged by the Muar MP.

“The MCMC would like to invite Syed Saddiq to visit the MCMC, where the commission is prepared to provide a full description of its role and organisational chart which can also be found on the MCMC’s official website.”
