Umno deputy permanent chairman Rizuan Abdul Hamid dies

The veteran politician was said to be receiving treatment for Covid-19.

PETALING JAYA:
Umno deputy permanent chairman Rizuan Abdul Hamid died last night due to Covid-19 at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

According to Bernama, it was previously reported that Rizuan was confirmed to be infected after undergoing screening on May 1.

His wife, Madinah Mohamad, the former auditor-general, was also treated at the intensive care unit of the same hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the death of Rizuan, who was also Kepong Umno division chief.

“Let us pray together that his soul will be placed among the righteous. Al-fatihah,” he said in a Facebook post.

Kepong Umno division deputy chief Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said Rizuan died at 10.53 last night and the burial will take place at the Raudhatul Sakinah cemetery in Kepong.

He described Rizuan as an experienced politician and a religious man.

“He did a lot for the people of Kepong. He served as the division head for more than 30 years and was one of the longest-serving division heads in Malaysia,” he said.
