
In a statement today, the marine department also said the ferry terminal in Kuala Kedah will be closed from tomorrow to June 1 in line with the EMCO announced in all 28 Kota Setar sub-districts yesterday.
However, cargo services between Kuala Kedah and Langkawi island will be allowed to operate as usual.
The department said those wishing to travel to Langkawi may use the Kuala Perlis ferry terminal instead as the area is not under an EMCO.
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday all 28 sub-districts in Kota Setar would come under an EMCO due to the spread of Covid-19 in the district, with a total of 799 positive cases recorded from May 8 to 16.
Kota Setar includes the state capital of Alor Setar and Kuala Kedah, besides many of the major commercial areas in Kedah.
