The Covid-19 immunisation task force (CITF) said a lack of tents and seats for waiting vaccine recipients had contributed to the long queues. Four more tents and 500 more chairs are to be provided.
The task force said large numbers of people had accompanied their elderly relatives for their vaccine appointments. The centre can cater for only 1,600 people per day.
“The situation worsened when it rained and those sending vaccine recipients scrambled to stop their respective vehicles near the entrance,” it said.
The roads were also too narrow for vehicles to pass easily.
CITF apologised to all those affected by the congestion and pledged to “always improve our services from time to time”.
FMT had reported that social media users voiced their frustrations at the lack of organisation at the centre, where lines snaked around the stadium, located next to Titiwangsa Lake Gardens.
Senior citizens were also reportedly left standing in the queue for their vaccine for hours, while some even chose to sit on the floor to wait.
Stadium Titiwangsa is one of the venues used to administer the Pfizer or Sinovac vaccines to the elderly and high-risk groups such as the disabled and those with chronic illnesses under Phase 2 of the national immunisation programme.
