13 new Covid-19 clusters, 4 linked to religious activities

The clusters were detected in Selangor, Kelantan, Johor, Kedah, Melaka and Sarawak.

Testing and tracing of close contacts are being carried out in the cluster areas.
PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has detected 13 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said four involved religious activities, three each involved workplaces and education centres, two were community clusters and one involved a high-risk group.

The clusters were detected in Selangor, Kelantan, Johor, Kedah, Melaka and Sarawak.

The new clusters are:

Selangor

  • Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz – a cluster linked to religious activities in Klang. The index cases tested positive on May 9 after a screening of asymptomatic individuals. 33 people were screened, seven tested positive.
  • Jalan Utarid Lima – a workplace cluster in Petaling. The index case tested positive on May 7 after a targeted screening of employees. 367 people were screened, 64 tested positive.
  • Jalan Sepuluh Industri Miel – a workplace cluster involving Hulu Langat, Petaling and Gombak. The first few cases tested positive on May 3 after a targeted screening of employees. 190 people were screened, 12 tested positive.
  • Kota Warisan – an educational institution cluster in Sepang. The index case tested positive on May 2 after a screening of asymptomatic individuals. 493 people were screened, 14 tested positive.
  • Jalan Mempelam – an educational institution cluster in Kuala Langat. The first few cases tested positive on May 1 after a targeted screening of teachers and students. 105 people were screened, 31 tested positive.

Kelantan

  • Pauh Lima – a cluster linked to religious activities involving Bachok and Kota Bharu Klang. The index case tested positive on May 7 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 50 people were screened, 30 tested positive.
  • Banggol Gajah Mati – a community cluster in Pasir Mas. The index case tested positive on Apr 30 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 60 people were screened, 28 tested positive.

Johor

  • Jalan Dato Setia – a cluster linked to religious activities in Johor Bahru. The index case tested positive on May 5 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 203 people were screened, 17 tested positive.
  • Jalan Lingkaran Ilmu – an educational institution cluster in Kulai. The index case tested positive on May 9 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 107 people were screened, 13 tested positive.

Kedah

  • Dah Penghulu – a cluster linked to religious activities in Kuala Muda. The index case tested positive on May 7 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 42 people were screened, 27 tested positive.
  • Dah Amanjaya 2 – a high-risk group cluster involving Kuala Muda, Sik, Yan and Kota Setar. The index case tested positive on May 6 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 102 people were screened, 28 tested positive.

Melaka

  • Jalan Serkam – a workplace cluster involving Jasin, Melaka Tengah in Melaka and Tangkak, Johor. The index case tested positive on April 29 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 157 people were screened, 20 tested positive.

Sarawak

  • Bako Hilir – a community cluster in Kuching. The index case tested positive on April 30 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 62 people were screened, 18 tested positive.

Clusters closed:

Seven clusters officially ended today, namely Jalan Badarudin, Jalan Keretapi, Jalan Merdeka, Simpang Empat, Medan Bayan Lepas, SS Lapan, Jalan Satang.
