JOHOR BAHRU:
Officials of the state Islamic religious department are awaiting a full report from the health ministry regarding the alleged deaths from Covid-19 of an imam, bilal and the chairman of a mosque in Taman Impian Emas here.

State executive councillor for Islamic affairs Tosrin Jarvanthi said the public would be informed of further information on the matter once the department received the report, Bernama reported.

“The mosque has also been closed for seven days,” he said when met by reporters after a tithe payment and assistance presentation ceremony hosted by the Johor Islamic Religious Council today.

A news portal reported yesterday that one of the family members of the imam claimed that he died on April 28 after contracting the Covid-19 virus.

The Facebook page of Masjid Taman Impian Emas, in Skudai, contained a posting on April 28 announcing the death of the imam, Ustaz Muhammad Nazirul Jamaluddin, and said the body was in the custody of the police and health ministry.

The next day, photographs of the imam, bilal and mosque chairman were published on the Facebook page with a posting expressing condolences on their deaths.
