Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said he had received one report over the incident involving veteran crooner Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin and investigations are being conducted under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1998 (Act 342).
Tahnik is an Islamic ceremony conducted for newborns.
“The hosts of the event have been identified and have been summoned to give their statements over the incident,” he said in a statement today.
It is not known if Siti or her husband Khalid Mohamad Jiwa were the ones who were called up by the police. Other individuals involved in the alleged SOP breaches are being identified and will also be called to give their statement.
“Ampang Jaya police want to advise the public to always prioritise complying with SOPs in any activities conducted and not to make speculations as the case is still being investigated,” Farouk said.
Siti, regarded as Malaysia’s number one singer, stirred controversy recently after social media users alleged that her guests had broken Covid-19 SOPs to attend her second son’s tahnik ceremony on April 26.
Several VIPs had attended the event, including religious affairs minister Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and prominent Islamic preachers. It was reported that some of these VIPs lived outside Selangor and had therefore attended the event without permission to travel interstate.
It was also reported that the event had gone on without fully adhering to Covid-19 SOPs.
This is the latest case of VIPs and celebrities allegedly breaching interstate travel and other SOPs by hosting events during the movement control orders established by the National Security Council to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Recently, celebrity Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, better known as Neelofa, her husband and 20 family members were fined by police for breaching Covid-19 SOPs at her wedding and for interstate travel.
